Maximalism is coming back, and one place getting a makeover first is the walls. Saturated colors, bold patterns, and layered textures are slowly taking over sleek, gray minimalism. In residential interiors, adding or changing wallpaper can boost a room and make it feel refreshed. It’s also an easy place to showcase your personality. In commercial interiors, wallpaper can make a statement and be used to set the mood of a space. In both scenarios, we’re seeing similar trends in wallcovering popping up.

Tropical

Nearly every trend round-up we’ve done recently, whether in higher education, hospitality, or restaurants, is talking about biophilic design. People want nature in their interiors; when they can’t have the real thing, designers bring it in with tropical and botanical patterns. Wallcovering is perfect to compliment this trend with realistic, natural-looking designs. 

Texture

As printing technology evolves, the different types of substrates that can be printed on are growing. Wallpaper no longer has to be smooth and one-dimensional. It can have dimension and depth. Wallpapers made with wood and cork are popular, as well as wallpaper made from fabric.

Art

Murals are a huge trend, especially in hospitality, where businesses try to create the perfect Instagram-worthy background for that selfie. Some use wall decals, some neon writing, and others bring in local artists to paint a one-of-a-kind piece. Yet, others are using wallpaper to create that striking wall. With on-demand printing, it’s so easy to get a one-off design of a photograph, bold pattern, or unique art piece.
