New in the library, the Swatch Collection
Each month, we add a new group of patterns to our licensable library, so there is always something new to find. This month, we’re excited to introduce the Swatch Collection. This collection has thirteen different patterns, each with its own colorline. All geometric in nature, these patterns are modern with unexpected traditional touches.
The Inspiration behind the Swatch Collection

At any given moment, Kristen’s desk is covered by various swatches. Sometimes, it’s swatches of woven cloth. Other times, it’s color swatches from a trip to the paint store. Usually, it’s both. Kristen often uses these swatches for color inspiration when working on new patterns. They are also helpful as color references when communicating with printers or interior designers. Sometimes, Kristen designs colorlines with specific swatches in mind. For example, she colored the Swallowtail Farm collection using the Sherwin-Williams healthcare palettes as a reference. This means all the patterns match or coordinate with the acute care and senior living facility palettes.

In the Swatch Collection, the physical swatches themselves, on their own, inspired Kristen. With swatches laid out all over her desk, Kristen couldn’t help but see patterns emerging as she moved them around. She began to play with them, and eventually, they became their own designs.
Swatches have inspired Kristen’s artwork, too.
Even in her artwork, Kristen is often inspired by the idea of swatches. Recently, she created an original punch needle piece titled Sky Swatch. In this piece, different colored yarn creates small color swatches of the New Hampshire sky. Next, she paired the swatches with dates to create a sky color log. This piece includes commercially dyed yarns as well as yarns she naturally dyed with avocado and indigo.
