Fall 2024 Color Trends

Even before the leaves start to change colors, you know fall is upon us when the extra thick copy of Vogue arrives, and it’s full of sweaters, scarves, and layers. As brat summer winds down, everyone is ready to get cozy, and the fall 2024 color trends reflect that. Colors this year are rich and saturated. They feel like the equivalent of a delicious, braised meal paired with the perfect glass of red wine. Or sitting under your favorite woolen blanket with a thick book.

Fall 2024 Color Trends

Speaking of red wine, jewel tones are back in a big way, particularly rich burgundy. Shades of red have been trending for the past few seasons. This season, it’s evolved into a rich, saturated burgundy. This versatile color works in varying shades on every material, from leather to velvet to knits.

Setting burgundy off are other traditional jewel tones, including rich indigo and opulent green. These all can be highlighted with rich golds, tans, and charcoal grays. Jewel tones can sometimes feel dated, but the saturation of the colors this season keeps them fresh and lush.

Yet, it’s not all rich and dark. There are also lighter colors used in luxurious materials that make pastels such as ballet slipper pink feel autumn-appropriate. Among the pastels, sky blue and pretty corals are also visible.

What about neutrals?

This season saw a departure from a lot of black and an embrace of dark brown. Warm and cozy shades that bring to mind espresso and chocolate pair well with other pops of color and multiple shades of brown.

Warm tans in the feeling of camel and toasted sesame seeds were also used to set off rich colors, denim, and other neutral shades.

Another move away from blacks and whites was rich gray. This year, gray is a more saturated shade that makes a statement on its own or helps other colors pop. Grays layered with different materials help with that cozy, woolen vibe, perfect for crisp days.

Pantone described this season’s colors as “infused with an inherent richness and earthiness that highlights our deeper connection to nature. A compendium of warm tones derived from natural pigments, opulent mid-tones, accessible neutrals, and universal greens, they are characterized by a mix of elegance and practicality linked to conscious consumption and slowing trend cycles. Fun, but also functional, essential but not un-exciting, colors … are straightforward, exuding a self-assured, no muss, no fuss demeanor.”

Of course, interiors are different from runways.

Not everything you see on the runway will make its way to interiors. Yet, the way we dress always seeps into the way we decorate. Some of these colors are sure to make an appearance in interiors quickly, particularly as accent colors. When using technology such as on-demand, digital printing, it’s easy to tweak a color to get an on-trend new colorway on any material.
