Design Tip: Refresh on a Budget
One of my favorite ways to freshen up a room while trying to stick to a budget is with a statement-making accent wall. You get so much bang for your buck! With a little creativity, you can create an accent wall that you can refresh seasonally or whenever you need to breathe a breath of fresh air into a room.
Not sure where to begin? Here are my favorite tips to help you create an inspiring accent wall:
Paint a wall and use color to add impact. Pick a color that works with the room, but also has a bit of contrast. Be sure to pick a color that is different enough, you don’t want your accent wall to look like you picked the wrong color, you want it to look purposefully different.
If you’re wanting a bit of pattern, but don’t want to wallpaper a whole room, use it to create your accent wall. This could be a fun opportunity to use a vintage wallpaper that you love but only found in a small quantity, or find a new wallpaper that speaks to you and your room.
Hang a textile. I’ve found that vintage rugs can make an impactful accent wall. A large old rug can bring a lot of life and warmth to a room, and also bring with it the history of the rug. Just be sure to have it professionally cleaned before putting it on your wall.
Create a gallery wall with photographs or art. This is another fun option for those who like to freshen up a room seasonally. Rotating artwork is such a simple way to change the vibe in a room quickly. It also means you don’t have to stop buying art just because you live in a small space or have run out of wall space.
Lastly, removable wallpaper is one of my personal favorites and the perfect solution if you don’t want the accent wall to be permanent. Think giant decal, these are easy to put up and take down. They are perfect for renters, commitment-phobes, or people like me who move around a lot. I have an accent wall in my home studio (in a Design Pool pattern, of course) and it was just what the room needed to both feel like a workspace and a bit separate from my home space.
